Lima - ran 9 miles along the beach and back along coastal
cliffs overlooking the Pacific
Urumbamba - ran 8 miles up and down a dirt/gravel road toward a 19,000 foot
snow-capped peak with glaciers (elevation of run was 9600 - 11,000 feet)
Machu Pichu - ran/hiked for 10 miles through cloud forest around and through the
spectacular Incan ruins including the precarious overlook of Huyanu Pichu, the
view of Inca Bridge, the Temple of the Moon, and the Sun Gate. Finished by
running down the trail/road into the canyon to Machu Pichu town. 4100 ft of
vertical gain, elevation range of 8900 ft down to 6600 ft.
Cuzco - ran 9 miles through the heart of Cuzco up steep cobblestone streets,
along an Incan road and ruins, past a statue of Christ (Cristo Blanco)
overlooking the city, and along a mountain road over a pass (elevation of run
was 10,900 - 12,300 ft).
Chucuito (Lake Titicaca) - ran/hiked 6 miles from near lake level (el. 12,508
ft) up past the Fertility Temple to the top of the local mountains, El. 14,556
ft. Gained 2000 vertical feet and was accompanied by two local dogs who I
befriended.
Then did a repeat of the Chucuito run two days later. Ran down the ~2000
vertical feet and 3 miles in 25 min.
