The day after . . .

I thought that I had done everything right to stave off muscle soreness, but I guess it might not be possible after doing something like Pikes Peak. Needless to say, today I was sore and generally lacking in the energy department. I slept about 8 hours last night without waking up once! When I did wake up, my muscles were so tight that just getting out of bed took some concentration. I ate a heaping breakfast, then rode my bike in to work -- I figured that the gentle motion of pedaling my bike the 4 miles to work might help stretch out my calf muscles. It may have, but sitting in a chair all day at work definitely didn't.  At the end of the day, I felt just as tight and sore as the beginning.

Anyway, pain aside, I'm still very happy with my overall experience. It was fantastic, and I definitely plan to run it next year. Maybe between now and then I can see what I can do about preventing this day-after soreness.

Thanks to all of you out there who were keeping me in your thoughts and prayers. Knowing that you all of you were rooting for me helped me soar to victory in achieving my first marathon finish.
